Melisa Whiskey – Played

Whilst the music industry obsesses over their ‘tips for 2017’ lists during the early part of January, a number of amazing artists creep quietly under the radar each year, taking their very first steps towards stardom. Twelve months ago it was Jorja Smith who released her debut around this time, an initial venture that at the time seemed to go unnoticed, but set in motion a chain of events behind the scenes that eventually led to her featuring on pretty much every ‘Sound Of’ list under the sun a year later.

It’s a bold prediction given that we’re only a few days into 2017 but we reckon Melisa Whiskey has every chance of ‘doing a Jorja’ over the next twelve months. ‘Played’, her first solo release, is as smooth as they come. Melisa’s elegant yet powerful vocal drapes itself effortlessly over a trip-hop beat, providing a quintessential introduction to an amazing new talent.

Already picking up support on BBC Radio 1Xtra and having recently signed a publishing deal with BMG Chrysalis, we’re convinced that this is just the start for Melisa. With her debut EP set to drop very soon, she may be a household name before long.
